5 Buried Alive In Cameron Highlands Landslide, 1 Body Found

Four victims are still missing.
Slightly more than a year since the deadly landslide at Batang Kali, Genting Highlands, which took a total of 31 lives, another deadly landslide has occurred early this morning, this time at Cameron Highlands.

BuletinTV3 reported that the incident took place at Kampung Batu 54, Blue Valley, where a total of five people were buried alive.

Pahang Fire and Rescue Department Assistant Operations Director Ismail Abdul Ghani said nine members from the Cameron Highlands Fire and Rescue Station rushed to the scene upon receiving the report of the incident at 2:51 am.

He added that the team had to walk a distance of 3km in order to reach the scene of the landslide.

Initial information indicated that there were five victims trapped in the landslide. The body of a man was also found as well.

“Firefighters are actively searching for the remaining four victims, which also includes a woman. But it is being carried out with much caution due to the fear of further landslides,” he said in a statement.

The search and rescue operation is currently underway. However, the identities of the deceased victim and the four missing victims have yet to be determined.

We hope the remaining victims will be found safe and sound soon and we also extend our condolences to the family of the deceased victim.
