A Bangladeshi man’s simple yet thoughtful gesture at an automated teller machine (ATM) in Malaysia has gone viral, earning praise from netizens.
In a video posted by @mat_yoe84, who happened to be at the same ATM centre, the man is seen withdrawing cash without wearing shoes.
As he left the premises, it became clear that his boots had been left outside the door. Dirt could also be seen near the soles of his boots, likely due to the nature of his job.
Doesn’t want the floor to get dirty
After the man completed his task, @mat_yoe84 asked why he had removed his shoes before entering. The man replied:
“My boots are dirty. Many people walk around here, so I don’t want to make the floor dirty too.”
In the video, @mat_yoe84 praised the man, noting that not many people would make such an effort. He then asked where the man was from, to which the latter replied that he was from Bangladesh.
In the video’s overlaid text, @mat_yoe84 reflected on the man’s behavior, writing:
“Your manners are truly admirable; honestly, I am ashamed.”
Wins praises online
The post, which was shared on TikTok on Monday (14 Oct) has garnered over 1.9 million views at the time of writing, with many users praising the man for his kind gesture.
One user commented: “He knows his shoes are dirty and doesn’t want to dirty a clean place.”
Another wrote: “Manners come before knowledge.”
A third user reflected: “He understands that cleaners must be tired from constantly cleaning. That’s why he took off his shoes, not wanting to mess up the floor with them. A person with manners like this must have strong religious values.”
