Lecturer lets M’sian student store bicycle inside classroom

Generally, students at both public and private higher education institutions have lots of ways to get to campus, like driving, riding motorcycles, biking, or taking the bus. But parking can be a problem. It’s often far away and not very visible, which makes students worry about their stuff getting stolen or feeling unsafe.

With a smile on her face, the student manoeuvres her bicycle into the classroom, guided by the lecturer to place it near the door.

Further inquiries into the identity of the lecturer revealed him to be Dr. Mohamed Aslam Akbar, an esteemed figure known for his teachings on Quran and Sunnah Economics at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).

What actually happened

Speaking to WeirdKaya, the original poster, Ashya, said that the incident occurred when Batrisyia was on her way to class and later encountered the lecturer. Initially, Batrisyia intended to park her e-bike outside the classroom, but Dr. Aslam expressed concern and suggested she store the bike inside instead.

“The incident happened when she was heading to class and met the lecturer. At first, she planned to park her e-bike outside, but Dr. Aslam worried and recommended storing it inside instead.”

Ashya further clarified that there was no case of theft; it was primarily a safety precaution.

Additionally, Ashya shared with us details about the viral video, which was acknowledged by her lecturer, Dr. Aslam, who said:

“Al-Hamdulillah I am genuinely overwhelmed by the response to the video, and I appreciate all the supportive comments. “

“To clarify, it was actually an electric bike that the student parked just outside the classroom door. I believe any lecturer in any university would have done the same to ensure the safety of their students’ belongings.

While I’m not particularly proud of the act itself—as it’s a simple duty we educators are happy to fulfill—I am profoundly moved by the way the community has recognized and appreciated even this small gesture. Thank you for teaching me about the power of kindness and support! Jazakumullah Khayran.”

‘He’s such a dad’

Comments flooded social media platforms, with users praising Dr. Aslam’s paternal concern for his students’ well-being. One commenter likened his level of understanding to that of a caring father with his children.
