A Malaysia Airlines flight heading from Jakarta to Kuala Lumpur had to make an emergency landing at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on the evening of Mar. 18 after declaring an emergency mid-flight.
Distress call received at 6:02pm
According to NST, the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) confirmed the incident, with its chief executive officer, Captain Datuk Norazman Mahmud, stating that the distress call from the Boeing 737-800 was received at 6:02pm.
Flight MH720 managed to touch down safely on KLIA’s Runway 32R at 6:17pm.

However, authorities have not disclosed the reason behind the emergency landing.
Rescue teams on standby
According to FlightRadar24, Airport Fire and Rescue Service (AFRS) vehicles were on standby as the aircraft landed.

The emergency response teams then escorted the plane to a designated parking bay at the airport.
No injuries or further disruptions were reported following the incident.
