Filipino Couple Caught For Using Fake M’sian IC To Work For The Past 10 Years

Having an identification card (IC) in Malaysia is extremely important as it’s an official document that verifies you’re a citizen, thus allowing you to go to school, apply for a job, and even apply for loans.

A Filipino couple who spent a decade working with fake ICs were finally caught thanks to information gathered by the authorities.

Used fake M’sian IC to work for 10 years

According to a report by Harian Metro, the couple first entered the country via Johor Bahru (JB) in 2006 from the Philippines.

An enforcement division officer from the National Registration Department (NRD) said after arriving in Malaysia, the couple allegedly purchased fake identity cards for approximately RM350 to RM500.

The couple then used the fake identity cards to look for work. They have previously worked at a soap factory in Johor and are currently working as security guards,” said the officer.

However, their sham citizenship was finally brought to an end following an operation carried out by NRD in Kota Damansara at 6pm yesterday (Mar 13) based on intelligence gathered by the department’s enforcement division.

Further investigation also found that the couple had five children aged between 18 and 33, where all of them were Filipino citizens.

The couple is expected to face charges under Regulation 25 (1)(e) of the National Registration Regulations 1990, where they face a jail term of up to three years or a fine of up to RM20,000 if convicted.
