The family of the 16-year-old girl who was fatally stabbed at a Bandar Utama secondary school believes that the suspect and the victim did not know each other prior to the incident.
According to China Press, the victim’s mother, Huang Liping (transliteration), said the suspect and her daughter, Yap Shing Xuen, were neither of the same age, grade, nor classroom.
My daughter never mentioned being harassed by anyone. We’ve also never heard of anyone confessing to her, or her rejecting anyone’s confession.”

The grieving mother described the tragedy as sudden and incomprehensible for the entire family, who are still struggling to come to terms with the loss.
A tragedy that shook the nation
The fatal incident occurred on Oct 14 at SMK Bandar Utama 4 in Petaling Jaya, where a 14-year-old male student allegedly stabbed Yap to death inside the school’s female toilet.
The case has since stunned Malaysians nationwide, sparking widespread discussions about school safety, youth mental health, and discipline among students.
Police have confirmed that investigations are still ongoing to determine the suspect’s motive and psychological background, as well as to verify any possible external influences that may have contributed to the shocking act.
Authorities have urged the public to refrain from making speculation as the investigation continues.
