Police are investigating whether video games and certain social media content may have influenced the brutal actions of a 14-year-old boy who fatally stabbed his schoolmate in Petaling Jaya on Tuesday (Oct 15).
According to Harian Metro, Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said investigations are underway to identify which social media platforms might have played a role in influencing the suspect.
Video games could be one of the factors
In our statement yesterday, we mentioned that the suspect was influenced by social media. But social media is a vast space, so we are giving investigators time to determine which specific platforms or content had an impact on him,” he told reporters after a Deepavali walkabout.
He added that video games could be one of the contributing factors.
The case, which has shocked the nation, involves a 14-year-old student accused of killing a 16-year-old schoolmate at SMK Bandar Utama Damansara (4). Police are continuing to probe the suspect’s motives and mental state.
