Alcohol, whenever taken in excess, often leads to severe and unwanted consequences as it causes one to lose complete control of themselves and sometimes their own lives.
A man who was reportedly intoxicated was left permanently maimed after his eyeball was forcefully dug out during an altercation with another man in Penang.

The shocking incident was first brought to light when footage of the bloody aftermath was shared on social media.
In the clips, it showed a man lying on the road in a small puddle of his own blood while several bystanders look on in stunned horror.
A man is also heard exclaiming, ‘Wah, mata keluar oh’ (The eye has come out) in the background, presumably shocked by the barbarity of the scene.
According to a report by Berita Harian, the incident took place at a flat on Jalan Ara Kuda on Saturday (Nov 16) at 2pm.
The Malay daily also reported that the victim, a local man, was drunk at the time and allegedly disturbed a 28-year-old foreigner, leading to a fight.
During the fight, the suspect gouged out the victim’s left eyeball with his bare hands and injured his right eye as well.
The victim is said to be in a critical condition and is receiving medical attention at the Kepala Batas Hospital. The suspect was later arrested as well.
It was also reported that Ministry of Health (MOH) officers later found the man’s eyeball not far from the scene.
The incident was confirmed by Penang police chief Datuk Hamzah Ahmad when contacted by Berita Harian, who added that the case is now being probed under Section 325 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt.
