PUTRAJAYA – Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin publicly criticized his allies today (8 Jan) as some UMNO MPs are trying to hold a General Election despite the daily COVID-19 cases being constantly high and the health system is at a “breaking point”.
In a recent press conference, Khairy Jamaluddin said that it is not the right time and the public do not wish to have elections (before the vaccines arrive Malaysia). He also pointed out that politicians who called for elections in time like this are in an “irresponsible stance”.
A lesser-known fact, however, it was also reported that UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had said the party wants the next general election to be held immediately, and Election Commission of Malaysia (SPR) also publicly confirmed that they are ready for a snap election.
This also comes after he posted an IG story citing Pontian MP Ahmad Maslan remarks on not collaborating with PPBM as they are not willing to drop Najib-Zahid case, he then left a “Pisang Goreng” comment under the story.
If we don’t want to support the current administration just because the government does not want to interfere with the ongoing court cases, then that is the level of ‘pisang goreng’ mentality, KJ added.
Moving forward, he mentioned the fact that countries such as New Zealand and Singapore who hold their general election during the pandemic should not be a plausible excuse to do so as they have higher compliance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
