A morning exercising routine for a woman takes an unexpected turn.
A Malaysian woman exercising in Taman Derga Jaya was startled when her pet dog began barking uncontrollably upon reaching a water drainage area yesterday (May 26) evening.
This unexpected incident led to the grim discovery of a man’s body beneath the metal cover of a drain.
The 51-year-old woman recounted the incident, explaining that her dog had sniffed something and began digging at the ground.
“I felt uneasy and thought the dog detected a monitor lizard, but my pet acted strangely and refused to leave despite several attempts to pull it away,” she said.
“Curious about the dog’s behavior, I looked into the drain with a metal cover and saw a man’s body lying face down in the water.” the woman stated.
According to Harian Metro, she then contacted the police to report the incident. She said she often saw the man at a nearby eatery where he frequently bought coffee and was known as ‘uncle.’
Following her report, a forensic unit from the Kedah Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK) arrived at the scene. Kota Setar District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Siti Nor Salawati Saad, said they received information from the public about the incident at 7.25 pm. The deceased’s wife and child later arrived at the scene to identify the body.
Based on the statement from the deceased’s child, the 58-year-old man handed over all his personal belongings, including his MyKad, bank cards, and wallet, to his wife before leaving the house around 3.30 pm yesterday without mentioning where he was going.
He had a history of Parkinson’s disease and mental health issues for about 13 years.
An initial examination found no criminal elements on the deceased, and the body was taken to the Forensic Department of Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) for an autopsy.
