Disabled M’sians Can Now Use Public Transport For Free With ‘OKU Smile’ Starting Feb 1

The ‘OKU Smile’ subscription pass is a direct response to the announcement by the Malaysian Minister of Transport, YB Anthony Loke, on December 21, 2023.

It outlines a strategic move to offer free fare incentives for the OKU community across all rail and bus services operated by Prasarana.

The initiative is set to commence on February 1, 2024, with the new applications and activation for the OKU Smile pass beginning on January 15, 2024.

OKU Smile’s Eligibility & Application

The pass is available to all existing Prasarana OKU concession cardholders and new applicants.

For existing cardholders, the subscription or activation of the OKU Smile can be done at any Rapid KL LRT, MRT, Monorail, BRT, and selected bus hub counters starting January 15, 2024.

These counters are located in strategic areas including Pasar Seni, Chow Kit, KLCC, Sri Nilam, Puchong Utama, Pearl Point, Sunway Pyramid, Greenwood, and Seksyen 2 Shah Alam for Rapid KL; and various locations for Rapid Penang and Rapid Kuantan.

Cardholders whose cards have expired are required to apply for a new card. For new applicants, the process involves bringing their identification card and OKU card issued by the Department of Social Welfare (JKM) for verification.

The card issuance process at the counter is efficient, taking only 10 to 15 minutes, with a nominal fee of RM5 charged for card production.

Online Application and Concession Card Collection

Rapid KL and Rapid Kuantan users can opt for an online application process through their website.

The online application requires uploading copies of the applicant’s identification card, JKM OKU card, and a passport-sized photograph.

Applicants are allowed to choose their preferred location for concession card collection, with the assurance of receiving the card within three working days upon submission of complete documents.

A fee of RM5 is charged for the card’s production, which is credited back to the cardholder’s account for a one-time transaction. Users need to maintain a minimum balance of RM5 on the card to utilize the pass.

Outreach and Community Engagement

In a move to further assist the OKU community, Prasarana will conduct a series of informational tours to various OKU associations.

Mobile registration counters will be set up during these tours to facilitate the application process for the Prasarana OKU card.
