This former student of Haji Zainul Abidin Sixth Form College scored an impressive 4As with a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 4.00 in the 2023 STPM results, announced today.

Amsyar’s path to academic excellence is deeply intertwined with the sacrifices and support of her mother, Mardiah Ismail, who earns a modest RM1,500 a month as a janitor at the Penang Court.

Her strong determination to provide for her family has been Amsyar’s primary source of motivation.

“After my father passed away suddenly in 2020, my mother had to become the sole breadwinner. Watching her work tirelessly to support me and my 18-year-old sibling inspired me to strive for the best,” Amsyar shared.

My mother always told me that I am the family’s hope

Amsyar’s father, Mohd. Sofi Salleh, was a factory worker who passed away when Amsyar was just 16. This loss spurred Amsyar to work harder, aiming to honour her mother’s efforts and make her proud.

“My mother always told me that I am the family’s hope and that education is our key to a better future. Her words were my constant source of strength and motivation,” she said.

Remarkably, Amsyar achieved her stellar results without attending any tuition classes. She relied solely on her dedication in school and spent two to three hours each day on self-study.

“I often remembered my mother’s advice that education could change our fate,” she added.

Amsyar, who dreams of becoming a teacher, hopes her story of hard work and determination will inspire others. Her success is not just a personal win but also a source of hope for her friends and peers.

In addition to Amsyar, seven other students from Haji Zainul Abidin Sixth Form College achieved 4As with a CGPA of 4.00 in the 2023 STPM results.
