Cosmetics mogul and entrepreneur Datuk Seri Hasmiza Othman, also known as Dato Seri Vida, is now in hot legal water after she was found to failed to settle a debt owed to a sub-construction company.
According to The Star, she was found to have failed to settle a RM1,060,285 bill for the renovation of her factory in Shah Alam into a studio.
Luxury cars & home seized by court
As a result of the debt, every item in Dato Seri Vida’s home and four luxury cars were sealed by the Kuala Lumpur High Court.
Yesterday morning (Nov 25), a Ipoh High Court bailiff, the sub-construction company’s lawyer Samir Zainal and sub-contractor Mohamad Taufik Kamarul turned up at her home at 9am and weren’t allowed to enter until some of her staff arrived at 10.30am.
According to Samir, Dato Seri Vida was ordered by the KL High Court on Oct 29, 2023, to settle her debts but failed to do so, prompting a writ of seizure and sale to be issued against her.
He added that the bailiff spent four hours to tag everything inside the mogul’s home, wit her room being the only exception as it was locked.
She is given two weeks to settle the debt; otherwise, all the items will be auctioned off. She has until Dec 9 to do so.
“I was also informed by Vida’s staff that she is currently in China and that she would contact me soon regarding the matter,” he said.
As for sub-contractor Mohamad Taufik, he alleged that he had been after Dato Seri Vida over the debt for six years.
“She hired a consultancy company to renovate the place, which then engaged my services for the job.
“However, when everything was done, the company could not pay me as Vida had not paid them. Thus, I had to file a bankruptcy case against the company, and a liquidator was appointed to act on behalf of the company,” he said.
Dato Seri Vida responds
Following the incident, Dato Seri Vida took to social media to formally respond to it, writing that she “took this matter seriously and will give my full attention to the issues raised.”
She added that she has appointed a lawyer to help her in resolving the matter in a lawful manner and requested for space be given to her in order to address it “calmly and professionally.”
