DAP candidate for the Yong Peng state seat, Yong Hui Yi, has lodged a complaint with the Election Commission (EC) after alleging that her Barisan Nasional rival continued campaigning on social media after the official campaign period ended.
Yong claimed that campaign-related content involving BN candidate Ling Tian Soon and MCA Youth was uploaded after midnight on polling day.
Campaign video allegedly posted after midnight
According to Yong, all campaign activities were required to end by 11.59pm on July 10.
However, she alleged that a video jointly posted by Ling and MCA Youth appeared on Instagram in the early hours of July 11.
Yong said the video showed Ling urging voters to support candidate number one for the Yong Peng state seat.
He was also allegedly seen holding up a sample ballot paper.
She claimed that the video amounted to campaigning after the official campaign period had ended.
Complaint lodged with Election Commission
Yong said she had formally lodged a complaint with the EC and called on the authorities to investigate the matter.
She added that the EC had issued a reminder that all campaign activities must end by 11.59pm on July 10.
This included campaign content shared across social media platforms.
Yong claimed that the alleged post had gone against election regulations and the warning issued by the Election Commission.
She urged the commission to handle the complaint fairly and investigate any alleged breach of campaign rules to protect the fairness, transparency and integrity of the election.
At the time of writing, Ling and MCA Youth have not publicly responded to the allegations.
