Kuan Chee Heng, a philanthropist who’s popularly known as Uncle Kentang, has urged the public to help a father working hard to provide for his family while battling a deadly disease at the same time.
In a Facebook post, Kuan said the father, simply known as Ah Chong, made the difficult decision to walk out from the hospital not long after he was admitted for cancer.

“He told the doctor: ‘I need to be be discharged as my children need me.’ He kicked himself out of the hospital because if he doesn’t continue to work by selling bread, soybean drinks and tau fu fah, he has no income to feed his family and pay rent.”
Kuan also revealed that Ah Chong has a wife and a 13-year-old son who suffer from mental health issues. He also has two other sons aged 18 and 20, one of which currently works as a waiter.
Needed help with cancer diagnosis
Kuan said Ah Chong contacted him in hopes of getting a computed tomography (CT) scan so he could have an idea of how severe his cancer was and prepare himself for it.
Unfortunately, Ah Chong was told that he needed to wait for months if he wanted to have a CT scan done at a government hospital.

In light of this, Kuan said he hopes to bring Ah Chong for a CT scan at Columbia Hospital, which would cost RM1,500.
‘Please help him’
Kuan also appealed to the public to help Ah Chong out by patronising his stall, which follows this schedule:
- Ah Chong wakes up at 1:30am and drives his lorry to USJ, Subang Jaya to collect bread, soy bean and tau fu fah supplies.
- Sets up stall by 5am at Menara TRX and remains there until 10am, before moving to Jalan Gasing, Petaling Jaya, where he continues selling until 5pm.

“This is his daily routine despite being diagnosed with cancer. He has very little choice as his sons and wife need to eat, and a roof to protect them from the rain and sun.
“Many men left their spouse and children, but this man never left them behind even though he is facing the hardest life battle of cancer in his life,” he added.
Those who wish to help Ah Chong can make their donations via CIMB account 8010624732 – Pertubuhan Amal Uncle Kentang Malaysia, with the reference as “CT Scan”.
Alternatively, donations can be made via TNG, with the payment receipt forwarded to 018-268 3999.
