A twin tragedy occurred at a HDB flat in Sengkang, Singapore on Monday (Oct 6) after a man and his adult daughter were found in a severely decomposed state.
Shin Min Daily News reported that the bodies were found at around 1pm, with the man’s body being found in the bedroom, while his daughter’s corpse was discovered near the main door in the living room.
Noticed foul-smelling fluid dripping through ceiling
A resident named Zeng (transliteration) told Shin Min that his mother called him at around 6am to tell him about a red liquid that had a foul smell to it leaking through the ceiling.
He then arrived at 9am and cleaned up the liquid with tissue paper, where he observed the liquid was “sticky and smelled really bad”.
When he went to work, Zeng’s mother called again to complain about the stench getting worse, leading him to believe something was amiss and alert the police.
Victims were described as “reclusive”
Another resident named He (transliteration) said the victims lived in the unit with an older woman, with the latter not to be seen again in around 2017.
Since then, the father-daughter duo occupied the unit and rarely made an effort to interact with their neighbours.
A resident named Jia Lan said that while the father was generally in a healthy state, his daughter is believed to suffer from a mental health condition, where she was seen clapping and singing in front of the elevator.
Jia Lan also said he had observed the daughter wander aimlessly across the street several times.
Speculations surrounding deaths
Following the tragedy, neighbours have wildly speculated what could have led to the duo’s shocking passing.
Some told Shin Min that they suspect the father had died first, with his daughter following suit a month later.
One resident went even as far as to claim that it was most likely that the daughter had starved to death as her father was no longer around to take care of her.
The news was widely received with sadness by residents, with Zeng, whose ceiling was soaked in the victims’ bodily fluids, paying his final respects and offering prayers outside their unit.
Police looking for next-of-kin
Meanwhile, police are appealing to the public to help find the next-of-kin of the female victim, who was identified as Xu Na (transliteration).
