Delivery riders do what is probably the most important job in the world, where they deliver countless orders to hungry customers who are waiting to fill their stomachs. However, some simply do not appreciate what they do and instead demean them.
A delivery rider recently took to social media to recount how a certain customer treated him like a lesser being by tossing cash at him as he didn’t want to get his hands wet from the rain.
Customer tosses cash at M’sian delivery rider to avoid getting hands wet
In a photo which was originally posted by a delivery rider named Mohd Yusmadi and later reshared to the Facebook group Info Lalu Lintas Sabah, it showed his motorcycle getting drenched in the rain along with a RM5 note lying on the ground.
According to Mohd Yusmadi, he said that he had delivered an order to the customer amid heavy rain and was soaked to the bone despite wearing a raincoat.
Instead of thanking him for making the delivery despite the bad weather, Mohd Yusmadi claimed the customer tossed the cash on top of a pole as he didn’t want to get his hands wet.
While most would find this gesture insulting and opt not to take the money for the sake of their dignity, Mohd Yusmadi humbled himself and picked up the RM5 which had been blown to the ground by the wind.
“I remembered my children’s faces and how I needed to buy groceries from the market tomorrow, which was why I decided to take the money which was scattered by the wind,” he wrote.
Netizens express outrage & sympathy
Mohd Yusmadi’s plight has since evoked strong reactions from netizens, who were angered by the customer’s demeaning act and offered words of encouragement for the delivery rider.
A netizen shared about how he experienced the same situation as well but said that he was only thinking about one thing – to provide for his family.
