A recent Facebook post detailing a troubling encounter with roaming cows and an unsatisfactory response from the local municipal council has gone viral, shedding light on a growing issue that has both safety and economic implications.
The initial Complaint and MBSP’s response
The post, originating from a resident of the affected area, recounts their attempt to file a complaint with Majlis Bandaraya Seberang Perai (MBSP) regarding cows loitering in Jalan Baru. To her dismay, the alleged response from MBSP was far from what she expected.
According to the post, instead of addressing the issue at hand, MBSP purportedly sent the complainant a ‘scenic photo’ and insisted that there were no cows near the area in question.
“I filed the complaint to find the owner of the cows, not to have MBSP take scenic photos! It’s really frustrating!
The frustrated individual clarified that her intention in filing the complaint was to identify the owner of the cows, not to receive picturesque images.
‘If it was a motorcyclist, they would’ve been killed‘
The situation took a dire turn when the complainant, collided with one of the roaming cows, resulting in significant damage to her vehicle.
Expressing concern for potential fatalities, the post highlights the serious safety implications of the issue, noting that if the collision had involved a motorcyclist, the outcome could have been tragic.
“Today, I collided with a cow. If it was a motorcyclist, he/she would’ve been killed. My car has been badly damaged and I now need to ask customers to come to my home to have their nails done as I don’t have transportation for on-site services for a few months”, she added.
The consequences extend beyond personal safety. The individual, who appears to be a mobile nail technician, laments that the damage to their car has left her without transportation for on-site services for several months.
This, in turn, has compelled them to request customers to come to their home for nail services.
The incident occurred in the vicinity of Jalan Baru, Perai, Seberang Perai Tengah, with the affected area extending towards the road leading to the Penang Bridge.
‘Even if you find the cows’ owner, it’s useless‘
As the Facebook post gains traction, locals are voicing their concerns about the perceived negligence on the part of the municipal council in addressing this public safety issue.
In response to the viral post, comments from concerned citizens have flooded in.
One user suggested, “You’ll never be able to find the owner of the cows that got hit. Perhaps you can try asking a lorry to send them off to be sold, and you might meet the owner.”
Another commenter added, “Even if you find the cows’ owner, it’s useless as he will say the ones that you hit (with your car) aren’t his. They are stray cows. If you call for a lorry for the cows, they will become his (the lorry driver).”
