Pontian district police chief Superintendent Mohammad Shofee Tayib has since verified the authenticity of the clip, saying that an investigation was launched by the Investigation and Traffic Control Division on Tuesday (May 10).
“We conducted a detailed investigation and found that the incident happened at 7 am on Tuesday in Pekan Nanas. The children were preparing to go to school, and their mother then posted the video on her own TikTok account.”
He added that the case was investigated under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Mohammad Shofee said the parents and their children later turned themselves in at the Pontian police headquarters to assist in investigations yesterday (May 12).
“Parents or guardians who allow children below the legal age to drive can be charged under Section 33 of the Children Act 2001.
“The owner of the vehicle who is also the mother or father of the child can receive a summons under Section 39 (5) APJ 1987,” he said.
