SEBERANG PRAIÂ – In the last week, we have seen a price hike for vegetables due to bad weather, affecting crop growth and supply. Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) claimed to be aware of the change.
The aftermath of the announcement was seen today in a Facebook post by Penang Kini as it featured the complaint of a diner.
Said diner was protesting over a small dish of kailan stir-fried with salted fish costing up to RM18.
“We all know clearly that the price of ingredients increased. The price of the snapper fish, stir-fried mixed vegetables, ulam and sambal are still acceptable. However, this small portion of salted fish stir-fried with kailan costing RM18 is too much.”
The receipt showed that the customer spent RM122 in total.
While the post did not include the name of the restaurant, the post revealed that its location was in Kepala Batas.

Following this, the Penang division of the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) advises the diner to file an official complaint regarding the issue.
Their spokesperson said that public cooperation is needed for further actions to be taken.
“We have taken note of the viral incident, and we are investigating the restaurant’s name,” he added.
