Two women tragically lost their lives earlier today, around 8:46am in a collision involving a Perodua Myvi and a trailer lorry on Jalan Rompin Lama in Pekan.
According to reports, the victims were both employees of the Department of Statistics who were on their way from Kuantan to Rompin for census work when the incident occurred.
The Deputy Director of Operations at the Pahang Fire and Rescue Department, Ismail Abdul Ghani, revealed that the car and trailer lorry collided, resulting in the two adult women being trapped in the car and losing their lives on the spot.
Meanwhile, the trailer lorry driver survived the incident.
“The fire and rescue team used specialized equipment to extricate the victims from the wreckage,” he said.
The victims were subsequently handed over to the police and transported to the hospital for further treatment.
Wrong MyKad for one victim
One of the victims in the car accident was carrying a MyKad that belonged to someone else, which complicated the identification process.
One victim was initially thought to be Jemilah Awang Ngah, but was later identified as Ruzana Mohamad Agin, 50.
The other victim was Suhaizan Abdullah, 41, from Kampung Bentan in Kuala Pahang here, worked as an assistant statistician at the Pahang Statistics Department.
