Losing your phone in a foreign country is no doubt a huge hassle as it requires you to buy not only a new phone but lodge police reports as well.
A tourist from China was astonished to find that the iPhone 15 Pro which was stolen from him during a trip to Malaysia had somehow landed itself at a phone shop located in his home country.
China tourist has iPhone 15 Pro stolen in Penang
According to Lianhe Zaobao, 21-year-old Zeng Yusong from Wenzhou, China, had gone for a trip to Singapore and Malaysia with his professor and two other students to visit local universities.
On July 31, Zeng lost his iPhone 15 Pro while in Penang and thinking that he might have left it inside a hired car, he and the rest returned to the spot where they alighted from the vehicle and managed to find the driver.

To his dismay, the driver told him that he didn’t have the phone with him, adding that it could’ve been taken by the passenger who entered the car after them.
Though Zeng tried to track down the iPhone 15 using the GPS feature, he couldn’t as it was switched off. Furthermore, his ID and student card were placed within the phone case, which further compounded his worries.
Discovered iPhone 15 Pro was in China
On Aug 4, Zeng and the group returned to Wenzhou, with the iPhone yet to be found.
But as fate would have it, Zeng tracked the phone down and discovered that it was at a shopping mall about 80km away from his campus in Wenzhou.
Upon landing in China the next day, Zeng immediately called the police to accompany him to a second-hand mobile phone shop at the mall.

iPhone 15 Pro taken by couple who also went to Penang
At the phone shop, Zeng asked the staff to let him scour through its surveillance footage. When he did, he saw that the iPhone was switched on by the clerk at the exact time he tracked it back to Wenzhou.
He was also given the contact information of a couple who coincidentally travelled to Penang during the same time as he did and found his iPhone inside the car.
According to the couple, they claimed they waited for 10 minutes for someone to come retrieve the phone before they eventually took it with them.

They then tried to sell the phone but couldn’t as it was locked. As such, they left the iPhone at the shop to let the clerk have another go at unlocking it.
However, Zeng was doubtful of the couple’s story as he strongly suspected that they had purposely turned the phone off to avoid being tracked.
He also noted that they could have opted to hand the phone to Malaysian police or the car driver instead of taking it back to China.
