A cat that was seen trapped inside a deep water channel near MRT Taman Equine sparked concern online after a Threads user pointed out how difficult it would be for anyone, whether human or animal, to climb out if they fell in.
The incident was shared by Threads user @feeroll, who uploaded several photos and videos showing the cat at the bottom of the drain.
“Seriously, this water channel is so deep. Can’t they put something like stairs here in case a person or animal falls in? People wouldn’t be able to climb out either if they fell in,” he wrote.
He also added that due to the depth of the drain, even a person might struggle to get out without help.
Cat seen trapped in deep drain
In the photos shared, the cat could be seen standing near the wall of the drain, with shallow water flowing nearby.
According to the witness, the incident took place nearby MRT Taman Equine.
His post soon gained attention from netizens, many of whom expressed concern for the cat while also questioning whether the area should have an emergency exit, such as a ladder or steps, in case humans or animals fall in.
First rescue attempt failed
Speaking to WeirdKaya, the netizen said he saw the Bomba team and several members of the public gathered on a bridge after she got off the MRT.
According to him, the rescue team appeared to have just arrived at the scene and was still planning how to bring the cat up safely.
He said the first attempt involved lowering a rope, but it did not work.
“They tried lowering a rope, but it didn’t work,” he told WeirdKaya.
A second attempt was then made by lowering an umbrella towards the cat.
However, the cat reportedly did not move or enter the umbrella, causing the attempt to fail as well.
Bomba used ladder and bucket
After the first two attempts failed, the Bomba team proceeded to set up ropes before going down into the drain with a ladder and bucket.
Photos shared by the user showed several firefighters at the top of the drain, while one firefighter could be seen standing below near the ladder.
The cat was eventually brought up safely.
“Thank God, it has been brought up,” the user said.
He added that a lady at the scene later took the cat and gave it wet food. The netizen believed the lady may have been the one who contacted Bomba.
While many were relieved that the cat was rescued, the netizen also hoped the incident would draw attention to the possible danger posed by the deep water channel.
He said the drain appeared to be deep enough that even a person who fell in might not be able to climb out without help.
