In recent months, there have been multiple instances of sinkholes appearing primarily in the capital city of KL, leaving Malaysians anxious and worried for their safety.
Unfortunately, it seems that sinkholes aren’t appearing at just KL but at other states as week, with the latest instance taking place at Penang.
Bus in Penang gets stuck due to sinkhole
According to Sin Chew Daily, the sinkhole emerged at around 7am today at Taman Sri Nibong.
Unbeknownst to a bus driver, he drove past the sinkhole and suddenly realised that one of its wheels was stuck.
When he got down to inspect, he was shocked to find the wheel almost ‘swallowed’ whole by the sinkhole measuring 1m wide.
The driver, who was fetching 20 students to school at the time, immediately evacuated everyone from the bus. Thankfully, no one was hurt although they were all shaken by the incident.
He then arranged for another bus to fetch the students while his bus was later towed out from the sinkhole.
Officials from the Public Works Department (JKR) later arrived at the scene to inspect the sinkhole, one which they believed was caused by continuous water erosion due to a broken underground water pipe.
The area was also cordoned off and closed to the public so that the authorities can carry out further action.
We’re glad no one was injured in the incident and we hope the road will be fixed soon!
