In an interview, Sun revealed that he stumbled onto the idea by accident as he was inspired by comical ringtones he found online and wanted to create some himself.

After sharing some of the ringtones with my friends, he began to receive more than 300 requests via WeChat

Tailor-made messages

Sun’s ringtones are mostly personalised messages delivered in a variety of voices based on the customer’s request.

This includes recording messages with soft anime-like voices as well as energetic slogans in Mandarin.

Sun also recalled a time where he was asked to record an autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR) video of him eating.

She [the customer] told me that this would motivate her to wake up and eat some food.

Whoever thought that this could bring big bucks?
