While spelling errors happen every now and then, but what’s most important is how one responds when eagle-eyed individuals spot the errors and point it out.
Popular bookstore chain BookXcess recently found itself getting lots of heat from netizens over its less-than-friendly response to a netizen who kindly highlighted that its signs had a glaring spelling error.
‘We’re not a reading nation’
In a viral Threads post, the OP posted two photos showing the sign at BookXcess’ newest outlet at 118 Mall.

In the caption, she congratulated BookXcess on its latest store opening but had a small feedback regarding the spelling of a word on the sign.
“Congrats on the new opening at 118 Mall! Btw, your sign should say “stationEry,” she wrote.
Instead of thanking the OP for pointing the mistake out, BookXcess decided to take the passive-aggressive route with its reply.
We are not a reading nation. This is what happens when we are not. BookXcess core mission is to change that. Apologies as we never had the chance to grow up with books.”
Another spelling error could also be found on the sign, where the word ‘book’ in the phrase ‘Book are just the beginning’ was missing an ‘s’.

Backlash
Needless to say, BookXcess’ attempt of giving an edgy reply backfired tremendously as it attracted widespread condemnation from netizens, who slammed the bookstore for dragging the entire country down with its blunder.

And it seemed that the online backlash had knocked some sense into BookXcess, with a netizen posting a video of staff changing the erroneous sign.

While no one likes being criticised, if it’s a legit concern, it’s always worth looking into it!
