Bloodied Sanitary Pads Seen On The Ground At SG Flat, Residents Disgusted

Disgusting.
Residents at a HDB block in Singapore are at their wits end following prolonged littering by irresponsible individuals, making the area a public eyesore.

The discarded items included tissue paper as well as sanitary pads which had blood stains on them.

Online clip shocks many

The issue was first brought to light via a video shared to the Facebook group Complaint Singapore, where it showed pieces of used tissue paper and sanitary pads all over the ground.

The OP, who described the sight as a “shock”, said the block was identified as Block 636 Bedok Reservoir Road.

Ongoing issue

When reporters from Shin Min Daily News paid the flat a visit, they found the same items shown in the online clip, including a used pad inside the drain at the foot of the block.

They also observed that lift lobbies and the kitchens and bedrooms of flats above were overlooking the area, suggesting that the littering was done by a unit at the upper floors.

A resident named Chen Xianzhang (transliteration) told Shin Min he had witnessed blood-stained sanitary pads and tissue paper on the ground many times for the past few months.

He added that once he saw three sanitary pads at the same time.

“While used tissues could have been blown away by the wind, I believe the sanitary pads, which are personal hygiene items, were deliberately thrown.

Such behavior is not only revolting, but it also affects the neighbourhood’s cleanliness and reflects a lack of civic-mindedness on the litterbug’s part.”

Another resident named Chen said she had seen leftover food and breadcrumbs, causing her to suspect someone had been feeding pigeons.

Meanwhile, another resident, Zhang, said she once saw sheets of paper floating down from above, which may have been carried out by children.

Despite the issues, many said they have not lodged a report to the town council as they have not identified those responsible and felt that high-rise littering cases are difficult to solve.

However, some said cleaners sweep the area daily and rubbish is often cleared by the next morning.

Town council responds

When approached by Stomp, Aljunied-Hougang Town Council (AHTC) said investigations in to the littering are ongoing.

Since the unit responsible for the alleged littering has yet to be determined, advisory notices to residents along the stack of units where the incidents are believed to have originated have been issued.

AHTC also said it will continue to monitor the situation closely and work with the relevant government agencies if the need arises.
