Last week, a 38-year-old businessman named Low Kai Xian was reported missing in Johor after he told his wife he was going out to meet a friend but never came back.
Now, the family is fearing the worst after a bloated body was found in a river yesterday (Aug 3), with sources suggesting that it was most likely Low’s.
Mistook it for animal carcass
According to China Press and Sin Chew Daily, residents found a body which was wrapped in a net floating in Sungai Tanjung Sembrong, Parit Raja.
The hands and feet were also found tied together.
Residents initially thought it was an animal carcass but soon realised it was a human body upon a closer look and immediately contacted police.
When contacted by reporters, Batu Pahat district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani confirmed the incident.
However, it has yet to be confirmed whether the body belonged to Low at the time of writing.
Wife slams investigation process
Previously, it was reported that Low left home at 12.30pm on July 29, with parking ticket records showing that he had parked his Toyota Vellfire at around 1:31pm along Jalan Sutera Tanjung 8/2 near the Tea Garden coffeeshop.
When his vehicle was found near Skudai Parade, both its dashcam and head unit had already been removed, giving rise to suspicions that something criminal had occurred.
Low’s wife later took to social media to vent her anger over the investigation process and the toll it took on the family.
My husband has been missing since Wednesday afternoon (July 29). Our son keeps asking me: ‘Where is Daddy?’ And I honestly don’t know how to answer him.
“I filed a police report that same night, but the case was only treated as a normal missing person case.
“The next morning, my husband’s car was found. The dashcam had been forcibly removed. This is obviously a CRIMINAL CASE. Why wasn’t the vehicle dusted for fingerprints immediately? Instead, we were instructed to drive the car home,” she wrote.
Low’s wife also questioned why police waited until Friday to call her and other family members in for questioning instead of launching an investigation immediately.
She added that the family had been informed that the suspect behind Low’s disappearance was no longer in the country.
“I don’t want anything else. I just want my husband to come home safely! Please…if anyone can help, or has any information, please come forward. Please help us bring him home!”
A statement is expected to be released by the Johor police headquarters.
