Scammers are getting more creative, and social media has become one of their favourite tools to deceive the public.
With more people relying on apps like TikTok for quick information, it’s easy to fall into the trap of seemingly legitimate accounts that are actually fakes.
Scammers use fake TikTok account to target EPF Members with special withdrawal
One recent scam targets none other than EPF (Employees Provident Fund) members, tricking them with promises of special withdrawals.

A TikTok account pretending to be EPF, using the username @kwspmalaysiaa, has surfaced, misleading followers into thinking it is legitimate.
Unlike the official EPF handle @kwsp.malaysia, which has 98k followers, this fake account has gained 1,482 followers and posted three videos, one of which has already garnered over 500k views.
In its most recent video, the fake account advertises a so-called “special EPF withdrawal” (Pengeluaran Khas) for members under the age of 55, claiming it can be processed online between 7 and 30 October 2024.

The video directs users to a link in the bio, which leads to a fraudulent website designed to look like an application portal for Bantuan Tunai Rahmah 2024 payouts.

This fake website, with “Bantuan Melayu” in its URL, is cleverly disguised to trick users into entering personal information.

To avoid falling victim to these scams, always double-check the legitimacy of the accounts and websites you engage with, especially when dealing with financial matters like your EPF account.
