Beijing Winter Olympics silver medalist admits she’s eaten 200 dumplings thus far, much to the delight of Chinese fans

No small figure.

BEIJING – US athlete Julia Marino caught Chinese fans by surprise after she admitted to wolfing down around 200 dumplings throughout the Winter Olympics so far.

The 24-year-old took home the first medal for the US after she placed second at the women’s snowboard slopestyle event last Sunday (Feb 6).

In an interview with NBC Chicago which has since gone viral on Weibo, Marino shared her deep love for the Chinese dish following her arrival in Beijing.

The love for dumplings

I’ve probably had like 200 dumplings since I’ve been here. I get back from the mountain – dumplings. It’s the only thing I feel like is consistently always good.

She also shared that she spends her downtime by listening to music, dancing, and singing with friends at the hotel.

“That’s been super fun. We’ve been having some nice little music sessions in the sunlight before it goes down,” she said.

Julia’s immense love for dumplings has inadvertently won the hearts of Chinese fans on Weibo, where many were surprised to hear how much she had devoured.

They were also very excited to see an American falling in love with their local cuisine and echoed Julia’s sentiments over the dish.

One wrote, “It’s nice, isn’t it? I’d root for you to take some back as you can’t them anymore when you return.”

Another commented, “Westerners may find dumplings a delicacy, but for us, it is a staple food.”
