Illegal racers, commonly known as mat rempits, are a public eyesore and nuisance to Malaysian road users as they often disturb the peace with their loud, late-night races as well endanger public safety with their dangerous stunts.
A viral clip recently showed a group of mat rempits surrounding an Axia driver who decided to confront them head-on after they blocked his path and caused a traffic congestion as a result.
Axia driver gets ganged up by group of mat rempits
In a 41-second video shared by @azhar_919 on TikTok, it showed a group of mat rempits blocking a Perodua Axia’s path by stopping right in front of it in Melaka.
Angered by their unruly behavior, the driver then emerged out from the car and confronted one of the mat rempits while holding a stick.
At one point, he is seen lunging towards the illegal racer, causing the latter to zoom away on his motorcycle.
Perhaps unhappy that the man had dared to confront one of their own, the mat rempits began circling around the driver and his Axia before closing in on him, which prevented him from going elsewhere.
One of the illegal racers was even seen waving his helmet aggressively at the Axia driver as both of them began to argue.
Drove straight to the police station
However, the drama didn’t stop there, where the OP posted a follow-up video of the incident.
In the video, it showed the Axia driving straight into the police station, presumably because the driver wanted to lodge a report about being ganged up on by the mat rempits.
Unlike their previous bravado, none of the mat rempits dared to follow the Axia driver into the police station and merely watched from the main entrance or chose to drive away and cause chaos elsewhere.
Netizens praise driver’s bravery
The video of the Axia driver confronting the mat rempits has since garnered 1.5 million views at the time of writing, with many commending the driver for standing up to the unruly motorists.
They also mocked the mat rempits for bullying the Axia driver due to their numbers, only to chicken out at the police station.

On a more serious note, please do not unnecessarily confront mat rempits as it poses a huge risk. Instead, drive to the nearest police station immediately!
