Anwar Says He Hopes M’sians Will Remember Him As A PM Who Cared For All When He Retires

"I want to be remembered as a leader who took care of all M'sians."
Amid the ups and downs of his storied political career, there’s only thing Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim wants to be remembered for: a leader who won the hearts of all Malaysians.

This was the hope he expressed during a dinner event with the Chinese community in Eco Spring, Tebrau as Johoreans prepare to go to the polls this Saturday (July 11).

A leader loved by all

In his speech at the event, Anwar said his role as Prime Minister was to serve the people regardless of their race or state of origin.

“Johor is my state, Malaysia is my country. I, as the Prime Minister, must show my love to my people.

“I am already old. When I retire one day, I want to be remembered by the Malays, Chinese, Indians and those in Sabah and Sarawak as a leader who took care of them,” he said as quoted by The Star.

Reminded voters of responsiblity

Anwar added that his purpose in coming to Johor wasn’t to pick a fight with anyone as he wanted to see every state in the country to flourish, adding that if the state and federal governments were on the same page, it would be easier to work together.

He also urged voters not to be swayed or pressured by political rhetoric being spewed by certain parties.

Don’t listen to people say if the Chinese don’t vote, a certain party will win or if the Chinese vote, a certain party will not win.

“You as the people have the duty to vote and save Johor and the country.”
