After more than a year after the massive sinkhole appeared and “swallowed” a foreign woman at Masjid India, another sinkhole has surfaced in the area and caused panic to the public.
The Star reported that the sinkhole was spotted along Jalan Bonus, just two weeks after the authorities revealed what had actually caused the Masjid India sinkhole incident.
2nd sinkhole at Masjid India
In a statement by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), it said the sinkhole appeared in front of the Bombay Jewellery outlet at about 8.39am yesterday (Nov 10).

Not long after the sinkhole was detected, personnel from DBKL, Air Selangor, Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) and the Dang Wangi district police arrived at the scene to carry out investigations.
To ensure the safety of the public, Jalan Masjid India has been temporarily closed to all vehicles starting from Lorong Masjid India 4 (next to the mosque) up to the affected stretch.
DBKL also reiterated that public safety will remain its its top priority while monitoring and technical assessments are being carried out.
Further updates will also be issued from time to time.
What happened last year
On Aug 23, 2024, an Indian national named G. Vijayalakshmi fell into a 8-metre deep sinkhole.

Despite the authorities’ efforts to locate her, her body was never found and her son could only conduct final rites at the site of the sinkhole.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa later told Parliament that the sinkhole was caused by the failure of a corroded sewer pipe structure which was exacerbated by soil instability, not the presence of limestone.
