Have you wondered how much state representatives earn?
Altimet, the Lembah Jaya State Assemblyman, recently revealed his monthly earnings during an episode of Dol’s Podcast, disclosing that he earns up to RM16,000 per month.
Selangor Among Top-Paying States for YBs
Speaking candidly on the podcast hosted by Shuk Sahar, Shuib, and Fizi, the former rapper turned politician shed light on the financial perks and responsibilities that come with being a state representative in Selangor.
Altimet explained that Selangor ranks among the top three states offering the highest salaries to its state assembly members.
He elaborated that the RM16,000 monthly figure reflects not just the basic salary but also allowances provided for various responsibilities tied to the role.
Perks Beyond the Paycheck
When asked about additional incentives such as vehicles or housing, Altimet clarified that these benefits are not part of the package.
However, state representatives can access loan facilities similar to those offered to government employees.
“Part of our allowance includes a provision for a driver. The SUK (State Secretary) often advises us to ensure we hire one because the allowance is specifically allocated for that purpose. Not having a driver could even attract criticism from higher-ups,” Altimet shared.
