The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah congratulated Cheryl Chow Shu Wei of Beaconhouse Sri Inai International School on her being given the ‘Top in the World’ award for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) examinations in Chemistry.
His Majesty also expressed his joy and pride over the outstanding
achievements accomplished the students who had made the country proud at the international level.
His Majesty said he hopes Chow would inspire fellow Malaysians to work hard and strive to achieve success in their respective fields.
“Indeed, the achievement of Cheryl Chow Shu Wei once again proves that Malaysia is capable of producing quality, competent and international students and individuals.”
“It also proves that with commitment and hard work, Malaysians can compete and succeed on the international stage,” he said according to a statement issued by Istana Negara via Facebook today.
His Majesty also wished Chow all the best and encouraged her to continue making the nation proud on the international stage in the future.
The 17-year-old clinched the coveted award after successfully edging out nearly a million other students from around the world during the recent Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards, where she scored the highest marks in the IGCSE examination for Chemistry.
Besides that, Chow was also the top participant at the Mangahigh East Asia Maths Challenge 2019, beating 14,240 students from Japan, South Korea, and Singapore.
In 2019, she was awarded the gold medal at the Kangaroo Math Competition at the University of St Andrews.
Cheryl is also a two-time gold medalist of the Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition from 2019 to 2020.
