Today, Malaysia reported yet another new daily high of Covid-19 cases totalling 8,290; surpassing the 8,000 mark after daily figures for new cases staying past 7,000 for the last three days.
In fact, the country has reported more Covid-19 cases in the past four days than in the first ten months of the pandemic combined.
Health director-general Noor Hisham Abdullah recently warned Malaysians to be prepared for “the worst” due to the continuous spike in new cases.
The spike has left hospitals with a shortage of intensive care unit (ICU) beds. Health authorities also warned that occupancy rates will be rising, and medical personnel overworked as a result.
Around 1 pm today, Dr Noor Hisham shares a group of heartbreaking photos showing the untold sacrifice and struggles of frontliners on Facebook with the caption, “These pictures paint a thousand words.”
It is time for a nationwide consensus that curbing the infection rates is our utmost priority. It is time to take responsibility and stay home, stay vigilant and be cooperative with the SOPs and beyond; for the safety of our friends, our family, the frontlines risking their lives, and our country.
