8-Months Pregnant M’sian Woman Falls From 3rd Floor Of Sabah Hospital

The unborn child unfortunately didn't survive either.
Tragedies can happen at any moment to both adults and children, even at places largely considered to be safe such as hospitals.

A woman was pregnant with her unborn child lost her life after she fell from the third floor of the Lahad Datu Hospital in Sabah on Wednesday (Jul 31), reported Harian Metro.

According to a statement by Lahad Datu district police chief Assistant Commissioner Dzulbaharin Ismail, he said investigations found that the woman, who was in her 20s, was brought to the hospital after she acted aggressively.

She was then admitted into the ward to undergo further treatment and monitoring.

However, the victim allegedly attempted to leap out from the ward’s window which was located at the third floor but was prevented from doing so by an attending nurse.

Both of her hands were later tied due to her aggressive behavior,” he said.

At 6.30pm, the victim’s hands were untied as she had been sedated and showed no signs of aggression. At 7.20pm, the attending nurse found that the victim had disappeared from her bed and eventually found her lying on the grass on the hospital’s ground floor.

“The victim was rushed to the Emergency and Trauma Unit for further treatment and underwent surgery to save the 33-week-old fetus, but the baby was pronounced dead in the womb.

“As for the woman, she was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) but was pronounced dead yesterday (Aug 1).

No criminal elements were found and the victim’s body was sent to the Lahad Datu Hospital Forensic Unit for an autopsy,” said Dzulbaharin.

Investigations are still ongoing with the case being classified as sudden death.
