A dispute over a noisy radio allegedly took a dangerous turn in Temerloh after a 77-year-old man was filmed apparently setting fire to his neighbour’s home.
According to China Press, the elderly man was allegedly unhappy that his neighbour had been playing the radio at a high volume for a prolonged period.
The incident was captured on video and later circulated on social media.
Allegedly arrived with paper and a bottle
In the viral footage, the shirtless elderly man could be seen standing outside the neighbour’s home while holding a piece of paper resembling a newspaper.
He was also seen carrying a bottle which was suspected to contain petrol.
The man then allegedly placed the paper near the entrance of the house before setting it alight.
Within minutes, the flames could be seen growing and spreading around the entrance.
The elderly man subsequently walked away from the scene while the person recording the incident could be heard shouting at him.
Police later arrived at the house
Another video circulating online reportedly showed police officers arriving at the scene to conduct investigations.
Officers were also seen speaking to the elderly man and members of his family.
The Chinese daily reported that the incident is believed to have stemmed from the elderly man’s dissatisfaction with his neighbour allegedly playing the radio too loudly over a long period of time.
As of the report, further details surrounding the incident, including the extent of the damage and whether anyone was injured, were not immediately available.
It is also unclear whether the elderly man was arrested or what further action was taken against him.
Police investigations into the incident are understood to be ongoing.
