Depression is a mental illness that plagues one’s mind with dark thoughts and can sometimes cause the victim to snap and do things they never imagined themselves doing.
An elderly woman who suffered from depression went off the deep end and attacked her own daughter with a machete, resulting in grievous injuries for the latter.

According to Kosmo, the unprovoked attack took place at the 71-year-old suspect’s home at Felda Kerteh in Dungun, Terengganu on Monday (June 10).

Dungun district police chief Superintendent Maizura Abdul Kadir said initial investigations found that the suspect was lying in the living room when she suddenly got up and attacked her daughter, a person with disabilities, in her room while she was sleeping.
“The victim’s brother heard her screams of pain and snatched the machete away from the suspect when he saw his sister covered in blood and reported the incident to police.
“The 46-year-old victim sustained injuries to her neck and chest, requiring five stitches,” he said.
Maizura added that investigations revealed that the suspect not only experienced depression since her husband’s passing last April but also often hallucinated.
The victim was sent to the Dungun Hospital for treatment while the suspect underwent a psychiatric examination at Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu.
