70yo M’sian man collapses and dies while playing badminton
According to a report by China Press, the incident took place at a badminton court in Alor Star, Kedah, on Friday (Mar 7).
A now-viral photo of the incident showed the 70-year-old victim named ‘Ah Chew’ playing doubles with friends and bending down to retrieve the shuttlecock.
But just as he was doing so, he suddenly fell backwards and collapsed to the ground before passing out.

Upon seeing him falling to the ground, ‘Ah Chew’s friends quickly rushed to his aid while a doctor who happened to be playing at a nearby court performed CPR on him.

Sadly, their efforts were to no avail as ‘Ah Chew’ was pronounced dead on arrival when paramedics came and rushed him to the hospital.
It was later revealed that he suffered from hypertension, diabetes, and high cholesterol. Despite this, ‘Ah Chew’ was physically active and jogged 7km daily and played badminton every Monday and Friday.
Was supposed to go on 40-day road trip
Speaking to the Chinese daily at the funeral, ‘Ah Chew’s daughter surnamed Zhao said he was scheduled to embark on a 40-day road trip from Malaysia to China and had paid all expenses for it.
He received a flu vaccine last week and experienced mild fatigue but recovered after resting. While we did advise him to rest longer, he resumed playing badminton after a week.
“He was excited about his road trip, but sadly, this unexpected incident cut his dream short,” she said.

The family also declined to have an autopsy performed on ‘Ah Chew’ as they believed his heart problems was what caused his sudden demise.
