An elderly man in Batang Kali, Hulu Selangor was crushed to death by the sheer weight of his own car after the vehicle reversed and pinned him underneath.
Police at the scene later deduced that the tragedy was caused by the victim’s failure to engage the handbrake beforehand, reported China Press.
Car slid down sloped area
Hulu Selangor district police chief assistant Ibrahim Husin said in a statement that police received a report about the incident at 5.30pm yesterday (May 27).

“Preliminary investigations found that the accident occurred at 5.18pm when the victim parked his car in the garage before going out to close the gate.
“However, the vehicle suddenly rolled backwards and hit him, causing him to fall and become trapped underneath it.
“Initial investigations also suggested that the victim may have failed to engage the handbrake, while the garage was also sloped towards the gate,” he said.

Died at the scene
Ibrahim said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe head injuries and his body was sent Kuala Kubu Baru Hospital for post-mortem.
Police are probing the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, and those who witnessed the incident are urged to come forward or contact investigating officer Inspector Nurul Anati Zulkifli at 03-6064 1222.
Meanwhile, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department Operations Assistant Director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said a total of five firefighters from the Bukit Sentosa Fire and Rescue Station came to the scene at 5.43pm and helped in removing the victim from underneath the car.
