Aside from being an architectural wonder and iconic landmark of Penang, the Penang Bridge also has its fair share of notoriety as it’s a common spot for people to plunge themselves into the sea.
A 66-year-old woman had a close call with death after she fell right off from the Penang Bridge but managed to survive the fall in the end.
M’sian woman survives fall from Penang Bridge
According to a report by NST, the Prai Fire and Rescue station were notified of the incident which took place at KM1.1 of the bridge heading towards Penang island at around 3.30pm yesterday (Oct 31).
Operations commander Rohaizal Abdul Aziz told the English daily that when they arrived at the scene, they found the woman stuck in the mud.
Additionally, they also found her Honda car being left by the side of the bridge.
To rescue the woman, one of the firefighters had to climb over the Penang Bridge before using a rescue rope to pull her to the concrete part of the bridge.
Rohaizal added the woman was transported to the marine police jetty via a fishing boat before being handed over to the police for further action.
