Despite an age gap of 37 years, it didn’t stop a couple from finding love and a future in each other, resulting in them getting married.
The happy couple are Muhd Sabri Razaman, 27, and Norlida Muhammed Salleh, 64, who tied the knot in Jelebu, Negeri Sembilan six years ago.
Friendship bloomed into love
According to NST, Sabri first met Norlida at the age of 19 when he was working as a security guard at a mini market where she was employed.
Over a span of two years, both of them became friends and Sabri found himself falling in love with Norlida, leading him to express his intentions of marrying her.
“She agreed, but after we informed the family, some could not accept it. But I stood by my decision because I saw it as fate that had already been written.
“I was ready to become a husband, even though I was only 21 at the time,” he said.
In 2020, Sabri and Norlida got married, making Norlida a mother of six and grandmother to eight grandchildren.
Got along with family
Sabri added that Norlida’s family welcomed him with open arms, including his four stepchildren, some of whom are older than him.
He also said he’s very close to Norlida’s grandchildren and is happy to have become a grandfather at a young age.
So far, our relationship with everyone has been good and there is no reason for any resentment. Even with my wife, we have never argued.
“Although I am much younger, I have never taken advantage of my wife’s money. I work day and night because I am aware that it is a husband’s responsibility to earn a living and provide for his wife.
“I promise to take care of my wife until the end of her life and I will never leave her. Whatever happens, I want her to remain before my eye.”
‘I treated him as a son as first’
As for Norlida, she told Harian Metro that she never thought she would find love again following her divorce in 2016.
She added that she couldn’t reject God’s will for her life, that is marrying a man who was younger than me by more than three decades.
I only cared for him and initially regarded him like a son, but eventually we became partners.
“When he asked me to marry him, I told him to handle everything, and he did. That showed his sincerity. Some people said he was crazy for marrying me, but he was firm in his decision.”
Norlida said despite Sabri’s age, she found him to be a mature, loving, understanding, and obedient husband.
“I trust him completely to the point where I don’t see the need to check his mobile phone at all. I also once suggested that he marry again, but he refused.
“We also had discussions about having kids, but my husband said if that were to materialise, it will be in heaven,” she said.
Norlida also expressed hopes that she will continue to make Sabri happy as he has a long journey ahead of him.
