Wild elephant encounters can be rare but devastating, as seen in a recent incident in Kelantan.
A 62-year-old woman sustained critical injuries after she was believed to have been attacked by elephants while tapping rubber in a plantation, just 20 metres behind her house.
According to NST, her sister, Siti Fatimah Mat Husin, 60, was horrified to find Zainab lying on the ground, covered in blood and severely wounded.

At first, I thought my sister had suffered serious injuries from accidentally stabbing herself with her rubber-tapping knife,” Fatimah recounted.
However, villagers later informed her that the injuries were caused by an elephant attack after spotting large footprints in the plantation.
Fatimah explained that she had gone searching for Zainab around 10am after noticing her absence from the front of the house.
I called out her name several times before she finally responded. But I was shocked to find her lying on the ground, covered in blood, with severe injuries to both arms and a torn right thigh,” she said.
Rushed to the hospital in critical condition

Fatimah immediately called her husband for help and, with the assistance of villagers, carried Zainab to safety before contacting emergency services.
Zainab’s son, Nazri Mat Husin, shared that his mother is currently receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit at Hospital Sultan Ismail Petra and remains unconscious.
Authorities have yet to confirm details regarding the elephant attack, and further investigations are underway.
