A fruit picker in Besut, Terengganu, was found dead in unusual circumstances after his body was discovered on top of a dokong tree yesterday (Oct 5).
Utusan reported that the body of 53-year-old Saari Ghani was found with his neck stuck between the branches of a dokong tree measuring six metres tall at the garden behind his house at Kampung Dusun Beliku.

According to Besut district police chief Superintendent Abdul Rozak Muhammad, he said Saari informed his wife that he wanted to go to the garden to pick fruits at about 9am.
However, when he failed to return home at 7pm, Saari’s wife asked her son-in-law and brother-in-law to search for him at 10am the next day.
“However, both of them failed to locate the victim and only found two baskets filled with dokong fruit in the middle of the road leading to his house.
“A search and rescue (SAR) team immediately rushed to the scene and discovered Saari’s body with his neck caught within the branches of the dokong tree at 5.15 pm,” he said.
Abdul Rozak added Saari’s body was brought down from the dokong tree after an hour and taken to the Besut Hospital for further action.
No criminal elements were found in the incident and police have classified it as sudden death.
