As we rev up for the New Year’s Eve festivities and plan out our celebrations, here’s something you might forgot.
The first day of 2024, which falls on a Monday, isn’t a public holiday across the whole of Malaysia.
In the states of Johor, Kedah, Terengganu, Kelantan, and Perlis, government offices are sticking to their regular schedules.
So, if your paycheck comes from a private company in these areas, it’s a smart move to check with your employer about whether you’ll be joining the nationwide holiday bandwagon or not.
Meanwhile, the rest of Malaysia is looking at a long weekend break, stretching from Saturday, 30 December 2023, right through to New Year’s Day.
So if your friends from these five states can’t join your year-end party or trip, cut them some slack. They’ll be facing the first Monday blues of 2024 on 1 January!
