A mother and her three children lost their lives after the car they were travelling in crashed into the rear of a lorry at 2am today.
According to NST, the tragedy took place at KM310.2 of the North-South Expressway (southbound) in Kampar, Perak.
The victims were namely Muhammad Azib Nasaruddin, 23; Siti Nur Aminah Nasaruddin, eight; Ahmad Uwais Qorni Nasaruddin, five, and their mother Azriyani Abdul Latif, 45.
Additionally, another victim identified as 7-year-old Muhammad Fawwaz Nasaruddin was gravely injured by the accident.
Car catches fire after crashing into lorry
Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Mohamadul Ehsan Mohd Zain told the English daily that a distress call was made at 2.03am and a team from Tapah, along with the assistance of another team from Gopeng, rushed to the scene.
He added that the car’s bonnet caught fire after it rammed into the lorry, which was carrying tons of soil.
“A total of five people were inside the car, out of which four were pronounced dead at the scene. As for the other victim, he was taken to the Tapah Hospital for treatment.
“All of the bodies of those who died in the accident were also found to have burn injuries,” he said, adding that the bodies were taken to the Kampar Hospital for a post-mortem.
Miraculously, the lorry driver escaped unhurt and the rescue operation was brought to a close at 4.25am.
