Sexual crimes made against children are arguably one of the worst offences, where it subjects innocent kids to unspeakable horrors and scars them psychologically for life.
A young girl was one such individual after she was raped by a family member who was 34 years older than her.
43yo M’sian man rapes 9yo sister-in-law
According to the New Straits Times (NST), a 43-year-old man was found guilty of raping his 9-year-old sister-in-law.
The offence was committed among some bushes on a farm in Kota Marudu, Kota Kinabalu in April 2021.
During the hearing, a total of nine witnesses testified against the accused while the latter was the only defence witness.
The accused appeared in court unrepresented while the case was prosecuted by deputy public prosecutor Tham Pou Jin.
Sentenced 22 years in jail, 13 cane strokes
Sessions Court Judge Elsie Primus sentenced the accused to 22 years in jail and another 13 strokes of the cane for the heinous crime.
He was charged under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to 30 years and whipping upon conviction.
The accused was also ordered by the court to be placed under police supervision for two years after he completes his jail term.
