A three-year-old boy in Johor Bahru (JB) has died after he allegedly suffered abuse at the hands of his father’s friend and a foreign maid at a house in Jalan Ria 2, Taman Skudai on Monday (Oct 3).
Johor police chief Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said the tragedy occurred at the 28-year-old suspect’s home, reported Bernama.
Taken care by father’s friend
Kamarul Zaman said the victim’s father had requested the suspect to help take care of his son and his one-year-old sister for the past three months in JB.
“The victim’s father, who works in Singapore and his mother who works in Yong Peng, left their two children at the friend’s house with a payment of RM2,800 a month.
“Initial investigations revealed that there were several injuries on the victim’s body, as well as bruises and a few cuts, however, we are waiting for a comprehensive report following the post-mortem,” he said as quoted by Bernama.
Fortunately, his sister was left unscathed.
Suspect and maid arrested
Kamarul Zaman said the suspect and the maid were later arrested in the afternoon yesterday to assist investigations pending a remand order.
He added that the suspect also has several criminal records.
The case is now being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
New Straits Times reported that closed-circuit television footage and several items were seized from the suspect’s home to aid the investigation.
