A man was hauled to the Shah Alam Magistrate’s Court and charged with the murder of his wife yesterday (Dec 21), whom he was accused of killing with a dumbbell last week.
38-year-old Izzat Saat simply nodded his head when the charge was read out before magistrate Farah Rosnan. No plea was recorded as the case was under the jurisdiction of the High Court, reported NST.

According to Harian Metro, the victim, 33-year-old Nurul Qurraisyia Zulkafli, was assaulted with a dumbbell at a house located at Section 32, Shah Alam, between 10.30pm and 10.30am between Dec 14 and 16.
Izzat then lodged a police report, where he falsely claimed his wife had a seizure and lost consciousness.
Following a police investigation, it was found that Nurul Qurraisyia was assaulted allegedly due to jealousy before being taken to the Shah Alam Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
Izzat was later arrested at the hospital on the same day of the incident. Investigations also found that the couple had gotten married in April of this year and that the murder took place after Nurul Qurraisyia went to Shah Alam to attend her brother-in-law’s wedding.
Had a criminal record for drugs and assault
The Malay daily also reported that Izzat had two criminal records for drugs and assault. A urine test also found that he was positive for methamphetamine.
He was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, where it carries the death penalty, or jail not less than 30 years and a maximum of 40 years with a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane if convicted.
The court has set February 19, 2024, for mention, case management, and submission of chemistry, forensic and post-mortem reports.
